    • Review by: Charl A. HarperAs Halloween draws closer, it's time to go looking for some scary movies. And if your tastes run to the frightening, warped and sometimes laughably bad, you'll find that Danny Perry's "Cult Horror Movies" offers a great selection. Not every film will appeal to horror aficionados. These are cult movies at their finest, cherished and watched repeatedly by hard core fans who take pride in loving something ripped apart by reviewers and ignored by the masses.
That said, Perry's collection includes a number of well known classics... "Halloween,""Psycho," King Kong," and "Night of the Living Dead" to name a few. And there are less well known treasures that will appeal to any fan of horror movies. This is one of the areas where Perry excels. He's found some wonderful movies I loved and had totally forgotten about. I'll be searching for copies of "Seconds,""Bloody Sunday,""The Conqueror Worm,""Night of the Hunter" and "Picnic at Hanging Rock."
Finally, this book is enhanced not only by Perry's description of each movie, but by excerpts of interviews with the cast and crew. Sometimes the behind the scenes action is as fascinating as the film itself. This is definitely a book that will appeal to lovers of cult films, and horror movies. Fans of movies in general may even find something to capture their interest.

      DiaboliqueMagazineNo. 16(May/Jun 2013)

There are few actors in the horrific halls of fame who deserve the dedication of an entire issue of Diabolique. Peter Cushing appeared in dozens of classic horror films and is known for no less than three character roles: Van Helsing, Dr. Frankenstein, and Sherlock Holmes, each of which he portrayed through an entire series of films. In this issue, we celebrate what would have been his one hundredth birthday by presenting an overview of Cushing’s career, memoirs of people who knew him, highlights of some of his finest moments and coverage of Cushing’s own memoirs. Additionally, we speak with Neil Jordan about his newest vampire film, Byzantium; and we talk with Nigel Wingrove about the censorship battle he fought for his “dangerous” work.

      Inside this issue:

      THE DYING GAME
Neil Jordan sits down with Max Weinstein to shed light on his new Gothic vampire film, Byzantium.
      THE CUSHING “13″
Jonathan Rigby gives us a primer on Peter Cushing’s 13 stand-out film roles and reveals what makes them special.

Synopsis: A divorced man tries to move forward with his girlfriend and their children. It is a tradition for him to capture one day a year on video for prosperity's sake. On this day, the awkward new family ventures into a forested coastal sanctuary for a hike. Shortly after finding a peculiar black stone on the shore, one of the children disappears in the woods. Now completely lost and unable to find the missing child, the sun is setting. Something is roaming the trees, stalking them in the darkness.

A Bloodied Past= A Future on the Brightside
Ron DeCaro is a man who is not afraid to take risks or push buttons. In the past, he has shocked viewers worldwide. The "Brightside Trilogy" which has achieved cult status in the underground film scene is about to be released on Massacre Video. These films have also been self released and distributed by For the Better of Mankind Productions. Full details here

Halibut Point is the first film to explore the mythology of Trog; a demonic aberration from the sea praised through out the ages by apocalyptic cults and demon worshipers. It will be a found footage style film in the tradition of The Blair Witch Project and August Underground but with our own unique spin. This project is very important to the future works of For the Better of Mankind Productions. This small micro-budget film will serve as a proving ground to see if funding the much more ambitious project we have planned is viable. Official press release here

      ABOUT RON DECARO

Director Ron DeCaro[Gloucester, Massachusetts]"The Brightside Trilogy" has already achieved cult status in the underground film scene! He has the uncanny ability to immerse you in a surreal and bizarre, nightmarish world of gory and shocking visceral images combined with what I consider a "very intense LSD acid trip!" Clive Barker To Direct New Hellraiser Movie!

IN 2012, HELLRAISER CREATOR CLIVE BARKER ALMOST DIED WHEN TOXIC SHOCK PUT HIM IN A COMA FOR THREE WEEKS. NOW THE WRITER AND AUTEUR IS BACK WITH NEW IDEAS FOR HIS MOST TERRIFYING CREATION, PINHEAD.  AFTER A TWO DECADE-LONG BREAK FROM DIRECTING, MR. BARKER IS READY TO GET BACK BEHIND THE CAMERA!
When you think of the big names from 1980s horror, you tend to think of Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers and now "Pinhead" from Clive Barker's HELLRAISER (1988). With the last five movies having not been released theatrically, the franchise has waned in popularity. Now, Clive Barker himself is working to change that.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly about the director's cut of NIGHTBREED, Mr. Barker shared some status on the new HELLRAISER he has been writing.
“I think the phrase is ‘reboot,’ although I’ve never really understood what that meant,” he says. “I wanted to make sure we sounded some fresh notes. The movie actually begins on Devil’s Island. I wanted to fold into the Hellraiser narrative something about the guy—the Frenchman Lemarchand—who made the mysterious box, which raises Pinhead. I figured, ‘Well, what would have happened to him?’ He might well have been taken to Devil’s Island and I thought that would be a pretty cool place to start the movie. We’re waiting for Bob to come back to us and see when we’re going to actually make the movie.”
Having Clive Barker himself involved in the writing of the new HELLRAISER is the only way it would be acceptable to reboot the series as it was his original short story that started it all. The first two films in the series starring Ashley Laurence and David Bradley are still very scary even almost three decades later. We are all confident that a new movie franchise started out of HELLRAISER is on the horizon!

Known for a Daytime Emmy Award-winning performance in Take This Lollipop and a ratings-winning role on CBS-TV's Criminal Minds, Bill Oberst Jr. is an American actor of German descent. The Season 9 episode of the CBS-TV series Criminal Minds, "Blood Relations," in which Oberst guest starred with Adrienne Barbeau and Tobin Bell, was the evening's most-watched program on TV on its April, 2014 premiere. CBS later included Oberst's character in their list of Criminal Minds'"14 Most Notorious Serial Killers." He is perhaps most widely-known internationally as the face of director Jason Zada's Take This Lollipop, awarded a 2012 Daytime Emmy Award by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in the category of "New Approaches-Daytime Entertainment." Oberst has been seen by over 100 million viewers worldwide as an online stalker in the interactive application for Facebook users.

www.DiaboliqueMagazine.com News: Wednesday, November 12, 2014 [10:52 pm] (EST) - Coming Spring 2015 - Announcing the sensational horror genre actor Bill Oberst Jr. starring in the role of "Issac Jacobs" in Director Michael Scotti Jr's "I M P U R E" . . . Evil Has A New Name! He plays young Dinah's (Rory Ogden) tyrannical & twisted patriarch that started all the terror! Did the evil in the family genes start with him? Also starring Scott Geiter as "Bob."

Synopsis:13-year-old Dinah Jacobs (Rory Ogden) is bullied at school and abused at home by her mother & Grandfather, who are tyrannical religious zealots. But Dinah is definitely not like other girls, and with the help of a new friend, this cruel, calculating child is about to orchestrate a deadly revenge!

Rory Ogden of Hershey, PA hasn't wasted anytime getting started in her acting career. Since she decided to pursue acting at age nine, she's been in three independent films and has worked on two NBC shows. The latest film she's worked on, Just a Kid, is expected to be screened locally in May and is on its way to some of the big film festivals. But Rory's activities don't stop there; she also balances playing field hockey, singing in county chorus, playing violin and hosting her own internet radio show, Radio Rory. Despite all these activities, Rory says acting is her main priority.

      About Rory Ogden
Child actress Rory Ogden has accomplished more since November 2012 than many artists twice her age! In winter 2012, she made the decision to become an actress. Her mother says Rory's interest "came out of the blue," and before she knew it, Rory was auditioning for (and getting) small roles in films. Then came a short film called "Just a Kid," a delightful story about a young girl (Julie) who tries to cheer up her brother after his heart is broken. Rory landed the role, and that began a trend that continues to now.

In addition to "Just a Kid" (which has been submitted to film festivals across the country, including Sundance), Rory has won roles in the film "Letters," where she portrays the best friend of a girl whose suffers a miscarriage; the award-winning short film "The Patient," in which Rory is seen as a mental patient; an upcoming horror film; regional and national commercials; and even appeared on the Dr. Oz Show.

Rory's TV appearances include NBC's Deception, and Do No Harm. Her athletic abilities include baseball, basketball, track & field, cycling, swimming, tennis. But perhaps her second greatest love (after acting) is music: Rory has a voice well beyond her years. She enjoys creating and editing her own music videos, where she dances and adlibs to some of the most popular tunes on the radio today - often with hilarious results.

      FORESEEN
Based on the novel THE LIE from Award-Winning Best Selling Author Ashley Fontainne

Produced by: Confident Actor + Age Productions Films
       Directed by: Jermaine Alexander

      COMING IN 2015

Synopsis: Karmen Moncrille's (Tiffani Brooke Fest) name has been known throughout the world since the age of sixteen when her first book shot to the top of the bestseller's list? Now everything she writes is an instant hit, and her legions of devoted fans eagerly await her next release!

Quote from Director Jermaine Alexander... "Foreseen is about a best-selling author whose God given talent has been high jacked by the devil. So as we sit back and enjoy the thrills and terror, her future has already been predicted. On her journey from being agnostic to a believer she finds out crucial information that could not only change her life but the entire world. So, what will she sacrifice to save humanity… you all will have to wait to see the film. What makes this movie so great is how people will relate with the lead, Karmen. She deals with emotions that every person deals with; guilt, shame and blame. And as soon as the audience gets drawn in to her story... BOOM, I go in for the scare."
"That's why I love thrillers. They scare people. As a kid, I developed this fascination with a good surprise. I understood the effect of a simple unexpected tap on the shoulder. I loved to see people jump and scream then immediately look around to see if any one caught them in the moment. I was the little brother popping out of showers and hiding underneath beds until that perfect moment to strike for the scare."

The mysterious Karmen always blamed debilitating panic attacks as the reason she avoided publicity and has become a recluse. Which is exactly what she wants the world to think. Only Karmen knows the truth behind her introverted nature. Terrified of being asked where her ideas come from, she fears being branded a raving lunatic. Now just a week before her twenty-third birthday, Karmen’s world implodes. The madness that haunts her dreams spills over to her reality and she questions her sanity. Suddenly everything has changed and now the world will transform with her. Her last book will unleash the truth and alter mankind—forever.

Is Karmen's ability to write a gift or a curse? She's about to find out if her entire life is a lie. And why she was destined to write it. FORESEEN, is based on the award-winning novel THE LIE by Ashley Fontainne.

      THE INN(Printed Copy)

      If you're very lucky. . .
The ramshackle B&B in western Massachusetts isn't just an inheritance – it seems like the best chance for Jack and Annabel Devlin to save their marriage and start over. But Annabel’s first impressions of the remote inn don’t ease her nerves. In fact, everything about the gloomy Victorian draws Annabel back into childhood nightmares.

They might let you leave. . .
Locals whisper about the Blue Boy Inn and its long history of murders and mysterious disappearances. Soon Annabel hears noises within the walls and glimpses something – some things– scurrying in the shadows. The locked attic, the bricked-up fireplace … for years they've helped keep a ravenous evil at bay. Now Jack and Annabel’s arrival has stirred the house to life again. Debts must be paid, hungers will be satisfied, and one by one, Annabel’s worst fears are about to come true...

      ABOUT THE AUTHOR
William Patterson lives in Boston and Los Angeles and several points in between. A connoisseur of horror films, he especially loves the great made-for-television movies of the 1970s, where the devil always seemed to be lurking around the corner of a college dormitory or a suburban mansion.

The last remaining independent U.S. publisher of
hardcover, trade and mass market paperback books!

      About Kensington Publishing
Established in 1974, Kensington, America's independent publisher, located in New York City, is the foremost independent publishing house in the United States publishing in hardcover, trade paperback, and mass market. We publish over 500 books annually in both fiction and non-fiction. Kensington has sweeping and diverse imprints, including Kensington, Citadel Press, Dafina Books, Zebra Books, Pinnacle Books, Brava, Aphrodisia, K-Teen and our digital imprints eKensington and the newly acquired Lyrical Press. These imprints are well-known for popular women's fiction, African-American titles, multicultural young adult fiction, nonfiction, as well as true crime, Western, and mystery titles. Kensington continues to be the foremost American publisher of romance novels.

      Our History
Kensington Publishing Corp. is the last remaining independent U.S. publisher of hardcover, trade and mass market paperback books. This year marks our 40th year in business. From the time our very first book (Appointment in Dallas by Hugh McDonald), became a bestseller, Kensington has been known as an astute and determined David-vs.-Goliath publisher of titles in the full spectrum of categories, from fiction and romance to health and nonfiction. Through the Kensington, Zebra, Pinnacle and Citadel press imprints, the company releases close to 500 new books per year and has a backlist of more than 3,000 titles. We are considered a leader and innovator in such areas of publishing as African-American (Dafina), Gay and Lesbian, and of course romance.

The Kensington staff now totals close to 90 employees who take their inspiration from from its late founder Walter Zacharius. During his distinguished 50 year publishing career he introduced dozens of bestselling writers, and developed countless marketing innovations. Steven Zacharius, became President and Chief Executive Officer of Kensington in 2005. Kensington boasts a dedicated sales force—men and women both in the home office in New York and in the field around the country, with their fingers on the pulse of the market. The company is able to respond quickly to trends, to put books into the hands of readers faster than larger publishers can, and to support them with targeted promotional and marketing programs to generate reader excitement. Kensington continues to be a full-range publisher large enough to command respect in the market, yet small enough to maintain author, reader and retailer loyalty.

      Letter from President
This year, 2014, will mark Kensington Publishing's 40th year as an independent publisher. Like the entire publishing industry, Kensington has gone through many changes since its founding by my father, Walter Zacharius, who unfortunately passed away in March, 2011. This past year has shown continuing consolidation in our business as the two of the largest publishers, Penguin and Random House, combined to form one behemoth company that publishes over 40% of all trade titles. The power of the publishing industry has been consolidated into the “Big 5” companies, which are, Penguin Random, Harper Collins, Hachette, Von Hotzbrinck and Simon and Schuster. Harper Collins just recently acquired the largest romance publisher, the Canadian owned firm, Harlequin. All of these companies are billion-dollar publishing entities and several are foreign owned. Penguin Random and Von Holtzbrinck are German companies, and Hachette is French owned. Harper Collins is owned by the News Corp. (Rupert Murdoch’s firm) and Simon and Schuster is owned by Viacom.

(left) Congratulations to Steven Zacharius (l.), president and CEO of Kensington Publishing Corp., and Adam Zacharius, director of special projects and alt. media, celebrate Kensington’s 40th anniversary at a party during BEA on May 29. (Publisher’s Weekly “Picture of the Day” June 3, 2014). Congratulations to our friends at Kensington! If they've grown this much in forty years, they’ll set records in the next forty. We wish you every success in the future.

We’ve also continued to see continued consolidation in the amount of remaining outlets where books are sold. There is one large wholesaler remaining that distributes to supermarkets, newsstands and drug stores when there used to be over 750 wholesalers fifty years ago. The rest of the U.S. business is concentrated into less than ten major accounts and a greatly reduced base of independent bookstores. Fortunately the library business is still strong and the growth of eBooks has offset the decline of physical space for printed books.

Kensington remains as the only large independent firm to publish in the paperback field. We started as a historical romance publisher in 1974 with an investment of $67,000; it has now grown into a company with about 90 employees and publishes over 500 books annually in many genres, including women's fiction, mysteries, thrillers, westerns, true-crime, young adult, and commercial nonfiction.

Many people ask why an author would choose to be published at Kensington instead of one of the larger companies. The answer is that although this is becoming a much more technologically based industry, we are still a "people" company. There isn't another company where every author has the opportunity to meet and deal with everyone in the firm, including the top management team. We treat every writer as a part of our family. Our employees and our authors are very loyal and rarely leave: many employees have been with us for over 25 years, and we have published some of our authors since the company was founded.

My plan is to continue to grow our business to become THE largest independent publisher in the country. My son, Adam Zacharius, who had worked for us on the West Coast is now in the New York office and sits behind the desk my father used for his 35-plus years in the office. He’s now heading up our digital imprints, eKensington and our newly acquired imprint, Lyrical Press.

There's something special and unique about being a family-owned business. It's hard to put into words, but if you were to ask any of our authors or employees, they could probably explain it better than I could. I’m confident that we’re the only large publisher to have had three generations in the business and I have three grandchildren (so far), in the wings, to hopefully continue this tradition. I enjoy answering all of my e-mail from readers and writers, and I thank you for supporting our company. I truly answer every email that I receive whether it be criticism, praise or just general correspondence.

A lot of work has gone into another major redesign of our website to make it more user friendly, informative and enjoyable to readers. We hope you enjoy it.

      COMING SOON!
HOBO WITH A TRASH CAN - Anthology
Meet Elliot (Marc Arturi) & Mindy Goodfellow (Claire 'Fluff' Llewellyn). They are just your average, happy newly weds! But Retroville isn't your 'average' town, and Elliot is far from an 'average' man!

Here's some information on our up coming anthology HOBO WITH A TRASH CAN:

Quote from Claire... "I wanted an outlet for short movies to be distributed, therefore if a feature can be pieced together from several shorts, it has a better chance of distribution. Hence, an anthology is born. To add to that, I wanted to give the under-funded, no budget filmmakers a chance to get their work out there. Therefore, I presented a challenge to filmmakers to produce a short for $1, which I paid to them, "Dollar Horror, make you Holler!". That meant that they had to get creative & use what resources they could muster, as is usual with most low budget Indie films."

"As for the premise of the piece as a whole, what screams 'no budget' better than TRASH!!   Each of the directors was given an item of trash to build their film around & I scripted a back story/wrap around about a Hobo character, Bo, who has empathic visions when he touches certain items of trash. His 'visions' lead nicely into each of the short film segments."

"Retroville is a strange place; backwards, yet modern. A city with a small town mentality. Contained as if in a time capsule, yet still influenced by & influential to the outside world. One person knows what lurks behind the 'quaint' facade. Meet Bo, a vagrant with the gift of 'vision'. He sees more than his next meal in the garbage. The truth is in the trash!"

List of segments & directors [in order of appearance]:
      • 'Welcome To Retroville' [Wrap around]  - Claire 'Fluff' Llewellyn
      • 'Frying Saucer'  - Christopher Kahler  [Written by Claire 'Fluff' Llewellyn]   [Trash Item = frying pan]
      • 'Grab Bag' -  Steven A Grainger    [Trash Item = empty brown paper bag]
      • 'CondonDemned' -  Lloyd James Emmons & Kyle Leonard  -  [Trash Item = used condom]

      Claire 'Fluff' Llewellyn
      • Height: 5′ 2″
      • Weight: 100 lbs
Born in Worcestershire, England, Claire Llewellyn, affectionately known as ‘Fluff,’ first took an interest in acting & writing at an early age, writing lyrics, poetry & short stories. In 2004 she moved to Illinois to pursue better opportunities. After signing up with a few Background Artists agencies, she landed extra work on some T.V. shows & feature films. Looking for more challenging roles, she discovered that she could incorporate her creative talents more within the Independent market & her love of horror films was a bonus. She has appeared in several local Indie Horror films.

Growing ever more enthusiastic for the whole film making process, she formed her own production company, ‘Bloody Brit Productions’, through which she is producing/writing/directing & starring in her own movies. Her first movie ‘Conscience,’ is now available here

Her passion & talent has spawned many creative projects, & a Vampire alter-ego, the "Victorian Vampire." Through this character, she poetically explores the dark realms of the underworld. Claire ‘Fluff’ Llewellyn continues to grow as a genre actress/writer/poet & filmmaker, and has many projects to look forward to in the future.

      SHARDS
      By Syndryn Draconis

Walk a lonely path in your life and tell me how much you hurt.  Cry me a river that you can never cross;  jump to swim and drown in your own tears.  Forget the life you once knew, you have to earn your way back and you are running out of time.  Everyday that passes, every second you stand there crying and complaining; you are aging more and more.  Do not worry any more about your troubles and pain, someone always has it worse than you no matter how happy they seem to be.
Heart break is all around you.  Tears are always in production, so do not worry about running out of tears to cry.  Walk a mile in her shoes, then maybe you have earned the right to judge her. Walk a mile in his shoes and learn how painful his life truly is.  Fix up your house to be your mansion, it will only crumble in the end.  Build a true home for you and your family and it will last forever through any disaster.  Yell at the  man or woman behind that counter, just remember it may not have been their fault, but you belittled them anyways to make your problem seem meager.
Call that person ugly or fat, they will rise above you and become everything you never were, a human being.  They may run away and cry in privacy, but in the end they become better than you.  Wine and cry because you lost the love of your life, it is going to hurt and you must grieve for your dead love.  However, when all is said and done, your true love is still waiting somewhere for you to show them what a real happy life is.  Walk every path in your life, but no matter who you are,  you are always walking on shards of glass... each cut to remind you that you are only human.

"My body is my profession," says 19-year-old Debbie, a junior ballerina who lives in New York. "I've loved the dance since I was a little girl. One of my fantasies is to dance naked onstage."Debbie spends hours before the mirror, stretching every part of her perfectly toned body, studying every curve, analyzing every movement."I like working nude, without a dance belt, so I can see exactly what's happening. I think that's the only way I can keep tptally in touch with my body. Only trouble is, sometimes it excites me, and I have to either take a cold shower or . . .  you know . . . ." She smiled without finishing the thought, then went back to her practice. But the shimmering juices between her legs promised that this rehearsal would be a brief one. Photography by Clive McClean

        • About Liane Langford: Liane was born in Los Angeles. Her family emigrated from Russia, running from the Bolsheviks, finally coming to rest in the Hollywood Hills of California. Sometime between Aunt Edna opening her famous pastrami stand in Santa Monica and her Grandmother Ann's celebrated family market, the "Shermart" in West Hollywood, Liane was born. Raised in the Hollywood tradition, as a child, Liane's playground was the back lot of Universal Studios and A&M Records. Weaned on the Tijuana Brass and Emma Peel, Liane tried to wrap herself in her Mother's black chiffon scarf in an attempt to walk like Mortisha, but found that Moose and Squirrel came easier. Fade to black.........

        •  5.0 out of 5 starsA highly amusing read about an interesting life, as Julia Roberts or not. November 22, 2014
        • By: Chris E. Charles
        • This review is from: My Life As Julia Roberts: Snapshots of a Life (Paperback)
        • Comments: Liane Langford is a former model, current art dealer, and has always been a Redi-Whip heiress (no kidding). I was familiar with her writings and her wit, before I read this book. I followed her popular blog "A Walk in the Dark," since early 2012 and when I opened up My Life as Julia Roberts - Snapshots of s Life and browsed the contents page, I immediately saw some familiar chapter titles. A few of those titles, such as "Bob Doesn't Like Cats" (but he's still a decent guy) and "Costco Sells Caskets" (and they actually do) are straightforward enough to give the unfamiliar reader a good idea of what was on Liane's mind when she wrote them ...but try to guess what "Here's Mudd in Your Eye" is about, before you read it. The title of this book is drawn from Liane's resemblance to Julia Roberts, and that she is still made aware of it today, especially when she's wearing large, "I-hope-nobody-recognized-me" sunglasses in airports and other places when celebs are often spotted. The chapters, which are accounts of notable events and remembrances in Liane's life, aren't in chronological order, but if you read the book from beginning to end and keep mental notes, you can put together a pretty clear timeline of this lady's interesting life. If you recall Easy Bake ovens, Fresca, and don't need to Google the movie Funny Girl to see who was in it, then you'll enjoy this read all the more.
        • Liane has a way of telling a story that makes even a fairly mundane happening sound like it could be a potential script for a TV sitcom. She paints a vivid picture of the players here, particularly her mother, whom she calls "Toby." Toby is a quite a colorful character and Liane's recollections of her are hilarious. In "It only comes Once a Year," Liane recalls being six years old and excited when Halloween, her favorite holiday, had arrived. Toby, who seemingly forgot the occasion, made her a last-minute costume, that Liane has never forgotten. She clearly recounts as her six-year-old self looked on in shock, Toby calmly (but lovingly, I'm sure) "held a cigarette in one hand, scissors in the other, grabbed a sheet, cut holes in it drew a breath, and blew out smoke" and said; 'Here, you're a ghost." Liane, then and still being an avid viewer of "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" could only image getting rocks in her pillowcase (the pillowcase also courtesy of Toby) instead of candy, just like Charlie Brown did when he went trick-or-treating. Her account of a Thanksgiving Day dinner, as an adult, with an awesomely borderline-dysfunctional family, is another one of Liane's "holiday favorites."
        • She tells of her hosts Guy and Ann (the former greeted her arrival in just her bra and rollers in her hair, the latter didn't believe in deodorant, "even out of curiosity") a grabby friend named Stan, two large dirty dogs, and wondering what to do "when you're a hostage and there's no SWAT team." She at least made it out before the game of Twister began (which was probably Stan's idea). Her more somber recounts are just as enjoyable reads. Her life at the time of the 9-11 attacks illustrates how such an occurrence makes us us stop and look around at out lives, knowing we will never forget any of the details of where we were, what we were doing, and who we were with at the time. Liane sure remembers who she was with at the time. Her brief time spent in a nursing facility, is written about with the right amount of wit to alleviate the gloom of the situation, which she ended up turning into a positive, even though I would have held on to my Ed Hardy stuff. Oh yes, as you read some of these chapters, you may think "what does all this have to do with the title of this entry?" but Liane always makes sense in the end. Well, almost always.

        • Comments: Really enjoyable read from an extraordinary woman. This is a great book of anecdotes from Liane's life. Each chapter is about two to four pages and focuses on single incidents or people she has interacted with. I found myself laughing out loud with her at times reading about the adventures she had getting to the places she did. She tells some great stories and you find yourself just smiling. She's so relatable, you want to be her friend and by reading this book you come to understand the lady as a human being in ways that make her even more endearing.

        • Comments: I read the book shortly after the local book signing, not knowing what to expect, with really no expectations; I just wanted to experience an out-of-body something or other. Ive known Liane, but not more than a brief bit of dalliance here and there. Actress, writer, artist, friend, glamorous, creative, exuberant...now after reading the stream-of-concious depiction of her life growing up, facing challenges with health, and love, I feel like someone carried away, floating with her down that stream of life in the pink inner-tube. Fears, hopes, triumphs, sadness, all depicted with flair and innuendo. It was a fast read, lightning fast, with dips and swirls, a few jagged edges, some death-defying waterfalls, eddies and straight shots. Thank you for the engraved invitation to share your life, Julia, I mean Liane...

        • This review is from: My Life As Julia Roberts: Snapshots of a Life (Paperback)
        • Comments: Liane Langford is one unique writer as she details experience with methods of comedic economy. With an accelerate pace of a written monologue charged with stepping stones required to follow her very interesting way of life, you feel as if you are right there with her. One quickly becomes identified with this dancer of experience. As some may see their life experiences as a place to hide, there is no escapist of character within these pages. The pages come to life with Liane's self asserting flair of telling a tale drawing upon untapped resources of her life as, Julia Roberts gone mad, so to speak. There is emotional appeal, concrete imagery and symbols to arouse one's own experience relating to our own experiences.
        • Liane's book is a stagecraft of personal extension and intention of getting right down to the depths of her unmasked presence as each page turned is like a veil to fold into. Liane, as a humorist exposes experiences as surprises even to herself. The reader will be captured by the acrobatics of humor during Liane's trek, illustrated in situations of administrated shock with symbolic gestures of real life!! Laughter will indeed channel through the pages of holy ravings of alchemical fusions between what is real and what is really real!! Compelled to re-create experience, Liane is in top form. The more implicit the humor, the more the reader's reaction to approximate what Liane's effort is due from her style of writing with a piercing cry of fun under the reality of life. Pick up a book for you and a friend, they shan't be disappointed!! I wasn't!

           Dec 1, 2014 - NEWS UPDATE!
Unearthed Films is proud to present MORRIS COUNTY.
Award-winning writer and director Matthew Garrett (Beating Hearts) presents a horrific trilogy of thematically connected stories as gruesome as they are tragic and heartfelt.

In a performance praised by Diabolique, Fangoria and Rue Morgue, Darcy Miller is "Ellie," a damaged teenage girl harboring a terrible secret. Through the course of one traumatic day we learn what led this innocent girl down a path of self-destruction from which there is no return. In the "Family Rubin," an upper middle-class Jewish family struggles to keep up appearances as their seemingly perfect life begins to crack at the seams.More Detailshere Albie Selznick (Ricochet, The Young & The Restless) leads an ensemble cast in this shocking and heartbreaking take on the destruction of the modern American family. Elderly Iris is laid off in Elmer & Iris, forcing her to join her curmudgeonly husband in early retirement. When Elmer suddenly dies, Iris decides to keep his decaying body around out of fear of living - and dying - alone.
Pamela Stewart (Hal Hartley's Trust and Amateur), Erik Fransden (The Colbert Report), and newcomer Alice Cannon star in this melancholy meditation on loss and the inescapable prison of old age. "Bolstered by grotesque FX from Brian Spears & Pete Gerner (I Sell The Dead, Stakeland, The Innkeepers), and a diverse score by electronic musician David Kristian (Karim Hussein's La Belle Bete and Douglas Buck's Prologue and Sisters), Morris County exposes suburbia's dark heart and the self-destructive compulsions that fester within." - Kier-La Janisse [Author of House of Psychotic Women]

        House of Razorblades
         By: Syndryn Draconis

New breeds of music promotion are popping up all over the state of Michigan. However, one stands out above all the rest. The House of Razorblades is driving the competition out of business. Becoming widely popular with great promotional tactics, new merchandise, awesome band contacts, and an entire family of fellow promoters... the House of Razorblades continues to grow successfully. House of Razorblades merchandise is now featured on celebrities such as, Dave Navarro, Steve Joyner, and The Butcher Babies. I recently had the chance to catch an interview with owner and founder, Shannon Razorblade who was kind enough to give me a little of her time.

        • Syndryn: Tell me how you got started in this business.
        • Shannon: I've been in and out of bands since I was 13, and wanting to put on more than just a metal show.  I was wanting to put on shows full of all kinds of entertainment. I started Asylum angels which was a group of hot tattooed women  that I would dress up and do special effects make up on and have them do all kinds of crazy stuff while my band played. Rampage Asylum made a custom keyboard stand that I could metal grind on while the girls danced in the sparks, although keyboard is not my forte I am a singer by nature. However, trying to organize a group of women and a band was not so easy. I know I can count on myself and I know what I am capable of.
        • Syndryn: Sounds like it would be difficult to manage. Where did the Razorblade name and family begin?
        • Shannon: I needed a stage name and my promoter at the time (Defend Detroit) said I was edgy and sharp like a razor blade and its stuck ever since. I have done several bdsm shows where my toy was a razor blade so I've earned it lol. The house of razorblades family is everyone that supports me and enjoys all the crazy stuff I do.
        • Syndryn: Very nice! It is good to know I'm not alone in that insane world.
        • Shannon: Lol it's fun to let your demons out to play once in awhile
        • Syndryn: Now, you recently began to create new merchandise? Can you tell me about some of your new designs?
        • Shannon: Once again it all started with band shows. I want to see bands and fans dressed up at shows. If you're going out, get dressed up. If you're putting on a show, make that shit shine.
        • Syndryn: I agree.
        • Shannon: So I started making creepy weird over the top stuff. And people love it... So now I'm trying my best to put it out there for everyone.
        • Syndryn: That is wonderful!! I hope you keep that up! Where can we expect to start seeing HOR gear?
        • Shannon: As of next Saturday, Sid Wilson of Slip Knot will be sporting HOR gear. Dave Navarro, Steve Joyner, and The Butcher Babies also wear HOR necklaces. And of course everyone in Genitorturers wear HOR necklaces.
        • Syndryn: Awesome!!! That is great that you have such huge success with your merchandise! Now have you always been in the music scene? or have you done modeling as well?
        • Shannon: I have been a professional model since I was 14. I have done hair shows, ads, everything.
        • Syndryn: And a gorgeous one!
        • Shannon: Thank you!
        • Syndryn: You are very welcome!  You recently added a new member to the HOR family. What made you want to team up with Matthew Derrone?
        • Shannon: We both have a history with Mushroomhead and his personality is exactly what I need to push me over the top...
        • Syndryn: He is a fun guy!
        • Shannon: I met him at a benefit show at the machine shop and we clicked right away. He is the annoying little brother I always wished I had. Lol
        • Syndryn: Lol, that he is.
        • Shannon: He hypes up the shows. He is my drummer for our secret band project.
        • Syndryn: Nice! What else does the House of Razorblades offer to its fans? are there any links or sites for your merchandise?
        • Shannon: Website will be up and running with full stock shortly after the new year. I have bands and venues across the nation, and I want to see the metal community back to what it was 10 years ago. Packed venues and people moshing the shit out of each other and then shaking hands.
        • Syndryn: I think you have a better shot at that than other promoters I know. You have the drive it takes and the resources to back you up. You have a great group of followers, and many wonderful band connections.
        • Shannon: Thank you. Its hard in this economy
        • Syndryn: Any new shows we should all know about?
        • Shannon: Other than slip knot... it's hibernation season. Time to build my empire and bust out huge in the spring. Diesel lounge will be home base come spring time.
        • Syndryn: Very nice! I am certain everyone is excited, I know I am! I can not wait to see the power of HOR.
        • Shannon: I hope so. I am trying to feature in as many local band videos as possible. Divaudi studio whom I also work with, has a bad ass setup.
        • Syndryn: What other local or State wide venues do you work with?
        • Shannon: Having toured with genitorturers and being in the industry with national bands I have venues all over. Chicago and Cleveland are 2 of my favorites.
        • Syndryn: Tell us more! Lol
        • Shannon: Other than designing and making music my favorite part is hosting/emcee for shows. I love getting people hyped up and excited. I love putting out positivity. I love to see people having a good time.
        • Syndryn: Any special previews of the new band??
        • Shannon: Nope, it's top secret. Were waiting till we have a full album and a tour lined up then exploding the world with beautiful bloody metal.
        • Syndryn: I can not wait! Is there anything else you would like to say to your fans?
        • Shannon: I want people to approach me, talk to me, and support artists of all kinds. Show love, because we're all in this together.

With all of her enthusiasm and her talents, Shannon will not be failing at her dream. She has the drive and the power it takes to make this work for bands, local or national all over the world. There is no doubt in my mind that this company is vastly becoming the top promotion company in Michigan, putting this fine state, and it's brutal metal scene back on the map. - Syndryn Draconis

        Quotes from reputable sources:

"DIABOLIQUE takes its horror seriously, and the content reflects it... A heady, well-written excursion into the horror world...One of the best produced horror film mags introduced in recent years... A top 'Best Of' contender." - Monster Magazine World

"Horror Happenings highly recommends DIABOLIQUE. A great horror magazine." - Examiner.com

"I love DIABOLIQUE. Elegant magazine... Beautiful." - Chris Alexander, Editor-in-Chief, Fangoria

"I just saw the new issue of Diabolique and seriously almost teared up. Blown away with the whole thing; layout, theme, and overall tone of it. One of the reasons that I love this magazine is the care and attention which they put into the presentation of the material. When you put days and weeks into an article, it's wonderful to know that it will be done justice on the printed page. Hats off to Max Weinstein, Dima Ballin and Greg Petaloudis for their outstanding work on issue #19. It's a beauty." - Colin McCraken zombiehamster.com

"DIABOLIQUE brings back the feeling of joy and awe you experienced when you cracked open your first horror magazine... Truly the cream of the crop!" - Fatally Yours Horror Reviews

"Quite insightful. An intriguing look into the history of horror while also keeping readers abreast of current events." - Flamesrising.com

"Still a relatively new kid on the block, DIABOLIQUE is already cementing its reputation as a horror mag with class... I would urge anyone to pick up an issue of DIABOLIQUE and give their brain a workout." Cyberschizoid.com

"Thought provoking writing on venerable horror classics, side-by-side with pieces on lesser known works... Meaty, detailed pieces on horror writers old and new... Think of DIABOLIQUE as the 'Vogue' of the horror genre. (Maybe even the 'Vogue Paris')." - Kyle Marffin, author of Gothique, Waiting for the 400 and Carmilla: The Return
