The mayhem comes full force on Friday, January 16, 2015 at Tribeca Cinemas54 Varick Street, New York, NY 10013 with the frighteningly entertaining and award-winning Nightmare Code (2014) at 7pm in Theater One. The star- studded film features Andrew J. West, widely known to audiences as Gareth on AMC's mega-hit The Walking Dead, Mei Melançon (X Men: The Last Stand, The L Word) and Googy Gress (Apollo 13, Parenthood) and follows the gripping account of a start-up programmer who battles a mysterious software code that takes on a life of its own following the murderous rampage of his predecessor. The feature film is directed and produced by Mark Netter, written by Netter and M.J. Rotondi and executive produced by Craig Allen and Avi Bachar. A Q&A session with Netter is scheduled to follow. Having premiered to critical success across the board, Jacob Akira Okada's documentary short Painting the Way to the Moon (2013) will have its exclusive New York City premiere at 9pm in Theater One.

Produced by Adam Morrow and Carylanna Taylor the film follows Princeton mathematician and artist Ed Belbruno, who discovered a new form of space travel. His "eureka" moment while working at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in the 1980s came to him while painting. The groundbreaking conjecture that satellites could use the mathematics of the chaos theory rather than rocket fuel to orbit around the moon and send experiments into space was initially rejected by NASA and he was soon fired. However, his work eventually found a home at the agency. The film examines how "art and science share a common process and explores how creative thinking is not only for artists," according to the official film synopsis. A Q&A session with Belbruno is scheduled to follow.

A block of international science fiction short films begins at 7:30pm in Theater Two. A highlight of the evening is Room 731 (2014, USA) which stars Tim Kang, best known as Kimball Cho on CBS' smash-hit The Mentalist. The film directed by Young Min Kim and written by Kim and Christie Cushing is a supernatural mystery along the bloodlines of The Grudge and Saw and follows an amnesiac girl who awakens in a jail-like room and is haunted by dangerous spirits. Also starring Yoojung Kim and Nikki SooHoo, the film sheds light on the traumas of the WWII-era Japanese concentration camp known as "Unit 731." Industry professionals including Eddie Yang (co-founder, Alliance Studio), SFX makeup artist Diana Choi (The Dark Knight), Vanessa Mi Kyung Lee (The Hunger Games), editor Jimmy Gadd (The Mentalist) and executive producers Anna Liza Recto and Michael Kaleda (Bold MP) have rallied behind the project. The evening continues with Thomas Charles' Désaffection (2013, France), Mat Owen's Turn On (2013, UK), Winnie Cheung's Dear Lucas (2014, USA), Laura Maxfield's A Girl, A Cat, A Bomb (2014, USA), [followed by Room 731 in sequence], Faroukh Virani's Vimana (2014, USA/India), Aldo Romero's Silent Threat (2014, USA), Erin Li's Kepler X-47 (2014, USA) and Vanessa Gould's The Atom Bomb (2013, USA). And just when you thought the screams had died down, three filmmakers barricade themselves in a haunted house where no one has survived past 21 Days (2014) at 9:30pm in Theater Two. The spine-chilling and multiple award-winning feature film written and directed by Kathleen Behun stars Whitney Rose Pynn (co-star of NBC's upcoming David Duchovny series Aquarius), Max Hambleton and Mickey River. A Q&A session with Behun is scheduled to follow.

The festival continues on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at The Producer's Club - 358 W 44th Street, New York, NY 10036 with three blocks of short films. First up are Philip K. But the night is far from over with the screening of the award-winning feature film The Perfect 46 (2014) starring Whit Hertford, Don McManus and James M. Connor at 7:30pm. Written and directed by Brett Ryan Bonowicz, the film follows the story of a geneticist who develops a website to pair individuals of a pure genetic match in order to create the "perfect child." Ending the night is the feature There (2014) at 9:30pm, a high-octane thriller about a socially displaced war veteran who " justifies domestic terrorism by interpreting his actions with alien invasion." Written and directed by prolific underground filmmaker James Fotopoulos, the film stars Xander O'Connor, Brenda Bakke and Sarah Brooks.

The festival ends on Sunday, January 18, 2015 but not before the twists and turns of Inverse (2014) at 4pm in Tribeca Cinemas' Theater One -54 Varick Street, New York, NY 10013. 2015 GHOSTour to Prague Expands to Add FRANKENSTEIN CASTLE

NEWS UPDATE! Coming May 3-10, 2015 - GHOSTourto Praguethe premiere Haunted Vacation for travelers of all ages, has officially announced the addition of FRANKENSTEIN CASTLE and other locales in Germany to its itinerary.

GHOSTour takes travelers to supernatural cities with histories rich in magic, murder and the mysterious. Prague is considered the most haunted city in central Europe, where ghost-hunters, paranormal investigators and monster mavens continue to visit and explore. For many years Prague has been a magnet for students of the occult and in the 16th & 17th centuries it was a meeting point for alchemists and astrologers. The architecture of Prague is covered in esoteric symbols which can reveal many secrets to those who know how to read them. With an array of twisting cobblestones and large lamps, the Czech streets are full of magical stories about legends, myths and ghosts.

Frankenstein Castle is a hilltop castle in the Odenwald overlooking the
city of Darmstadt in Germany. It is alleged that this castle may have been
an inspiration for Mary Shelley when she wrote her 1818 Gothic novel Frankenstein.
     More details here

Travelers will experience everything Prague has to offer including the ancient Castles, the haunted neighborhoods and dark alleyways of the Old Town, the Underground City, the Astronomical Clock, Old Royal Castle aka Prague Castle, Strahov Monastery, the Alchemy Museum, theOld Jewish Quarter, Charles Bridge and the Golem-Monster to name a few.

The Prague astronomical clock, or Prague orloj (Czech: Pražský orloj), is a medieval astronomical clock located in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. The clock was first installed in 1410, making it the third-oldest astronomical clock in the world and the oldest one still working. The Orloj is mounted on the southern wall of Old Town City Hall in the Old Town Square. The clock mechanism itself is composed of three main components: the astronomical dial, representing the position of the Sun and Moon in the sky and displaying various astronomical details; "The Walk of the Apostles," a clockwork hourly show of figures of the Apostles and other moving sculptures—notably a figure of Death (represented by a skeleton) striking the time; and a calendar dial with medallions representing the months. According to local legend, the city will suffer if the clock is neglected and its good operation is placed in jeopardy and a skeleton, mounted on the clock, was supposed nod his head in confirmation. Based on the legend, the only hope was represented by a boy born in the New Year´s night.

PRAGUE CASTLE (Czech: Pražský hrad) is the official residence and office of the President of the Czech Republic. Located in the Hradčany district of Prague and dating back to the ninth century, the castle has been a seat of power for kings of Bohemia, Holy Roman emperors, and presidents of Czechoslovakia. The Bohemian Crown Jewels are kept within a hidden room within the castle. The Guinness Book of Records lists Prague Castle as the largest ancient castle in the world. It occupies an area of almost 70,000 m2, at about 570 meters in length and an average of about 130 meters wide. The history of the castle stretches back to the year 870 with the construction of its first walled building, the Church of the Virgin Mary. The Basilica of Saint George and the Basilica of St. Vitus were founded under the reign of Vratislav and his son St. Wenceslas in the first half of the 10th century.

THE CHARLES BRIDGE (Czech: Karlův)  is a famous historic bridge that crosses the Vltava river in Prague, Czech Republic. Its construction started in 1357 under the auspices of King Charles IV, and finished in the beginning of the 15th century. The bridge replaced the old Judith Bridge built 1158–1172 that had been badly damaged by a flood in 1342. This new bridge was originally called the Stone Bridge (Kamenný most) or the Prague Bridge (Pražský most) but has been the "Charles Bridge" since 1870. As the only means of crossing the river Vltava (Moldau) until 1841, the Charles Bridge was the most important connection between Prague Castle and the city's Old Town and adjacent areas.
This "solid-land" connection made Prague important as a trade route between Eastern and Western Europe. The bridge is 621 m long and nearly 10 m wide, resting on 16 arches shielded by ice guards. It is protected by three bridge towers, two of them on the Lesser Quarter side and the third one on the Old Town side. The Old Town bridge tower is often considered to be one of the most astonishing civil Gothic-style buildings in the world. The bridge is decorated by a continuous alley of 30 statues and statuaries, most of them baroque-style, originally erected around 1700 but now all replaced by replicas.

Charles Bridge, originally the Old Town's execution area, was the home of a beheading of 10 local lords, whose heads were stuck on poles for years until their flesh completely rotted away and their skulls picked clean by birds. Legend has it that the 10 lords can be heard at night bellowing sad songs in the dark. A water goblin is said to dwell beneath the Charles Bridge, devouring the souls of those who drown or fall from the bridge.

The Jewish Quarter in Prague, known as Josefov, is located between the Old Town Square and the Vltava River. Its torrid history dates from the 13th century, when Jewish people were ordered to vacate their disparate homes and settle in this one area. Over the centuries, with Jews banned from living anywhere else in Prague, and with new arrivals expelled from Moravia, Germany, Austria and Spain joining them, more and more people were crowded in.

To add to this, inhabitants of the Jewish Quarter, or the Prague Jewish Ghetto as it also became known, were forced to endure structural changes. The latest took place between 1893-1913, when most houses were flattened and the layout of many of the streets remodeled. Fortunately, most of the significant historical buildings were saved from destruction, and today they remain a testimony to the history of the Jews in Prague. They form the best preserved complex of historical Jewish monuments in the whole of Europe.

There are six synagogues, including the famous Spanish Synagogueand Old-New Synagogue, plus the Jewish Ceremonial Hall and the Old Jewish Cemetery, the most remarkable of its kind in Europe. The monuments even survived the Nazi occupation in the 20th century. Adolf Hitler himself decided to preserve the Jewish Quarter as a “Museum of an Extinct Race.” Indeed the Nazis gathered Jewish artifacts from other occupied countries, transporting them to Prague to form part of the museum. Today, these historical sights, all except the Old-New Synagogue, form what is called the Jewish Museum in Prague. Visitors can gain entry to the museum monuments by purchasing a ticket or by visiting on a guided tour. The Old-New Synagogue requires a separate ticket. It is the oldest preserved synagogue in Central Europe, built in early Gothic style in the 13th century, and is the main house of prayer for the Jewish community in the present day.

Finally, the Jewish Quarter is the birthplace of the author Franz Kafka, who is commemorated with a statue on Dusni Street.  It is difficult to overstate how much a guide can bring to your understanding of the Jewish Quarter. With so many stories attached to it, its history is really quite unique. During the Nazi occupation, some residents of the Jewish Quarter along with Jews from elsewhere in the Czech Republic, were transported to concentration camps. One of these is located to the north of Prague: Terezin Memorial Tour.

THE JEWISH TOWN– Josefov (Židovské město) -  The Jewish quarter is a small area known as Josefov (named after the emperor Josef II, whose reforms helped to ease living conditions for the Jewish, the Jewish Quarter contains the remains of Prague's former Jewish ghetto.) between the Old Town Square and the Vltava River. Here are two figures synonymous with this part of the city, Franz Kafka (1883 – 1924) and the mystical humunculus Golem created by Jehuda ben Bezalel, also known as Rabi Löw. Most of it can be walked around in a single day, but any detailed explorations needs time. The Jewish cemetery, Old-new Synagogue, Klausen Synagogue and the Pinkas Synagogue are definitely worthwhile sights.

MAISEL SYNAGOGUE (Maiselova Synagoga)- Originally a Renaissance temple, built in 1592 by Josef Wahl for rich Mayor Mordechai Maisel. Built on 20 pillars, it was very large and imposing Renaissance building but unfortunately burned down in 1689. Later synagogue was rebuilt as a smaller building in Baroque style. Today synagogue still preserves some of the 16th-century stone carving. A new neo-Gothic synagogue has been built in its place between the years 1893-1905, together with the demolition of the former Jewish ghetto and reconstruction of the main buildings.  Since the 1960s building houses an exhibition of religious objects including five books of Moses handwritten on rolls of parchment by scribes. There is also fascinating collection of Jewish silver, candlesticks, ceramics, textiles and other prints. Very interesting is an enormous glass beaker, made between 1783 and 1784 for the Prague Burial Society and painted with a procession of men and women dressed in funereal black. Ironically, most items in the synagogue Nazis looted from other synagogues across Bohemia as Third Reich planned to build a museum in Prague, dedicated to the Jews as an “extinct race.”

MUSEUM OF ALCHEMY - Speculum Alchemiae - Revisit the late medieval period and early modern times, when science and mysticism were closely linked, and researchers were looking for a “higher purpose” and “harmony of the spheres,” which could help them discover the secrets of nature. Taste with us the secret of the "Eternal Youth Elixer" and bring a small piece of its magical energy into your life. The newly opened alchemical laboratories were discovered during the reconstruction of one of the oldest historical buildings in Prague on the street Haštalská number 1.
This building is listed by UNESCO and by miracle this one has been preserved after the demolition of the Jewish quarter at the end of 19th century. Visitors have the first opportunity to see places, where alchemists produced elixir of eternal youth, Philosopher's Stone and non-precious metals changed into gold. Rudolf II’s alchemical laboratory from the 16th century, hidden from unwanted glances of passers-by, will fascinate you with magical atmosphere, introduce you the medieval activities of alchemists, connected to many modern scientific fields.

The Alchemy Museum replicates a 16th century alchemy study above ground with several labs below. These underground sections were unearthed over the last century and were painstakingly uncovered and preserved, revealing that the chambers were indeed used for the alchemical arts and the occult.

STRAHOV MONASTERY  (Czech: Strahovský klášter) is a Premonstratensian abbey founded in 1143 by Bishop Jindřich Zdík, Bishop John of Prague, and Duke Vladislav II. It is located in Strahov, Prague, Czech Republic. After his pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 1138 the bishop of Olomouc Jindřich Zdík took hold of the idea of founding a monastery of regular canons in Prague, having the support of the bishops of Prague and the Duke of Bohemia Soběslav I and after his death, Vladislav II. After his first unsuccessful attempt to found a Czech variant of the canons' order at the place called Strahov in 1140, an invitation was issued to the Premonstratensians whose first representatives arrived from Steinfeld in the Rhine valley (Germany). Thus a monastery originated which has inscribed itself in the Czech political, cultural and religious history for all time. The religious began to build their monastery first of wood, as well as a Romanesque basilica as the center of all spiritual events in Strahov. The building was gradually completed and the construction of the monastery stone buildings continued in order to replace the provisional wooden living quarters with permanent stone. In 1258 the monastery was heavily damaged by fire and later renewed.

In additional to Prague, GHOSTour 2015 will also be venturing into the darkest regions of Germany, and a very special attraction on the new itinerary will be Frankenstein Castle, one of many historic castles along the Hessian Bergstrasse. Burg Frankenstein, like a cross between Poenari Castle& Bran Castle in Transylvania, in itself is worth a trip to Eastern Europe.

POIENARI CASTLE - A stunning shot showing the ruins of Prince Vlad The Impaler's Castle. Vlad III Dracula was born 1431 and died in 1467. These modern ruins of Poienari Castle sit high on a mountain peak and have a gorgeous view. Poienari is in Wallachia, where Vlad Ţepeş' princedom lay. The nearest large town to Poienari is Curtea de Arges. You have to walk over 1,400 steps to get to the top!

BRAN CASTLE (Romanian: Castelul Bran; German: Törzburg; Hungarian: Törcsvár; Dutch: Kasteel Bran; French: Château Bran), situated near Bran and in the immediate vicinity of Braşov, is a national monument and landmark in Romania. The fortress is situated on the border between Transylvania and Wallachia, on DN73. Commonly known as "Dracula's Castle" (although it is one among several locations linked to the Dracula legend, including Poenari Castle and Hunyad Castle), it is marketed for resale in 2014 as the home of the titular character in Bram Stoker's Dracula. There is, however, no evidence that Stoker knew anything about this castle, which has only tangential associations with Vlad III, voivode of Wallachia, the putative inspiration for Dracula.
As discovered by the Dutch author Hans Corneel de Roos, the location Bram Stoker actually had in mind for Castle Dracula while writing his novel was an empty mountain top, Mount Izvorul Călimanului, 2,033 m high, located in the Transylvanian Călimani Alps near the former border with Moldavia. The castle is now a museum open to tourists, displaying art and furniture collected by Queen Marie. Tourists can see the interior individually or by a guided tour. At the bottom of the hill is a small open air museum park exhibiting traditional Romanian peasant structures (cottages, barns, etc.) from across the country. As of 2014, the castle is reportedly for sale.

BRAN CASTLE is perched on a dramatic hilltop near Brasov in central Romania. Constructed in the early 14th century, it is now open to the public, who are able to explore the elaborate rooms and dark passageways. This hand carved Gothic four-poster bed with end table, bureau & storage cabinet is part of the exquisite furniture and art on display in Bran Castle originally collected by Queen Marie. Tourists can see the interior individually or by a guided tour. At the bottom of the hill is a small open air museum park exhibiting traditional Romanian peasant structures (cottages, barns, etc.) from across the country.

MEDIEVAL CRIME MUSEUM - Housed in the former headquarters of the Order of St John of Jerusalem, the Medieval Crime Museum (Mittelalterliches Kriminalmuseum) provides a fascinating introduction to the history of law, including how society deals with criminal behaviour and those on the margins of society. The exhibition includes a display of instruments of torture, punishment and execution alongside law books, seals and numerous engravings.

But Frankenstein Castle is just one of the amazing places visited in Germany. The tour also visits the mystical walled city of Rothenburg, a preserved medieval town not unlike Vlad's birthplace, Sighisoara. It is home to the Medieval Crime Museum, filled with diabolical instruments of pain, punishment & torture, and also the Doll and Toy Museum, with two floors of historic playthings (and if you saw the film "Annabelle" you can guess how creepy this place could be).

DOLL AND TOY MUSEUM - Address: Schulhof 4, Vienna, Austria - Phone: +43 1 535 6860 Set near the Uhrenmuseum der Stadt Wien in Vienna, Austria - the collection of the Doll and Toy Museum ranks among one of the world's most remarkable assemblages of its kind. Spanning from the 1740s to the 1930s, this site comprises a vast array of various dolls. Most of the items on display were crafted in Germany, which has a strong doll-making heritage. For doll lovers it is a must. The Doll and Toy Museum was opened to public in 1989, but was originally a private collection that took over 20 years to accumulate. There are bears and unique doll houses as well as a great number of mechanical toys on display. If you are a doll collector, next to the museum there is a shop where you can purchase rare dolls or sell one of your own.

En route between Germany to Prague, travelers will also get to see possibly the scariest place on Earth... Houska Castle. Where as castles have always been built in strategic places, this one was built in the middle of nowhere. Hidden in the forests in Northern Czech, this fortress was not built to repel attacks or keep invaders out; it was built to keep something in! It was erected to close the gateway to hell. It was built upon a fabled bottomless pit to lock out (or in) winged creatures and demonic beasts from entering our world. Before sealing off Hell's realm, Bohemian rulers granted prisoners pardons if they agreed to be lowered by rope into the hole. The first few prisoners let out deathly howls.

HOUSKA CASTLE - An early Gothic castle, 47 km north of Prague, in the Czech Republic. It is one of the best preserved castles of the period. Notable features include a predominantly Gothic chapel, green chamber with late-Gothic paintings, and knight's drawing room. It was built in the first half of the 13th century probably on the orders of Bohemian ruler Ottokar II of Bohemia during his reign (1253–1278) to serve as an administration center from which the extensive royal estates could be managed.
Later it passed to the hands of the aristocracy, frequently passing from the ownership of one to another. In 1584–1590 it underwent Renaissance-style modifications, losing none of its fortress features as it looks down from a steep rocky cliff. In the 18th century it ceased to serve as a noble residence and fell into a state of disrepair before being renovated in 1823. In 1897 it was purchased by Princess Hohenlohe and in 1924, the times of the First Republic, bought by the President of Škoda, Josef Šimonek. Address: Houska 1, Houska, 472 01, Czech Republic.

One was pulled up and he appeared to have aged 30 years instantly. He died a few days later. The Nazis took over this same Castle to conduct experiments and dabble in the occult. Years later, German Gestapo officers' remains were found after they were assassinated execution-style. But by whom? The recurring ghosts at Houska are plentiful, including a headless black horse, giant human/frog/bulldog and a woman in an old dress who is frequently seen peaking out of top floor windows. Beneath the cellar there is said to be non-human remains of beasts that emerged from the hole. The GHOSTour guests will be going inside.

The Sedlec Ossuary (Czech: Kostnice v Sedlci) is a small Roman Catholic chapel, located beneath the Cemetery Church of All Saints (Czech: Hřbitovní kostel Všech Svatých) in Sedlec, a suburb of Kutná Hora in the Czech Republic. The ossuary is estimated to contain the skeletons of between 40,000 and 70,000 people, whose bones have in many cases been artistically arranged to form decorations and furnishings for the chapel. The ossuary is among the most visited tourist attractions of the Czech Republic, attracting over 200,000 visitors yearly. Four enormous bell-shaped mounds occupy the corners of the chapel. An enormous chandelier of bones, which contains at least one of every bone in the human body, hangs from the center of the nave with garlands of skulls draping the vault. Other works include piers and monstrances flanking the altar, a large Schwarzenberg coat of arms, and the signature of Rint, also executed in bone, on the wall near the entrance.

Not far from Houska Castle is the rock formation with the secret rooms. Translated as "The Hills Have Eyes" to local villagers, these unique giant boulders were reported to have naturally-formed "rooms" which may have been small homes for the criminally insane. Also part of the itinerary is the famed "Church of Bones," Sedlec Ossuary, the small Roman Catholic chapel beneath the Cemetery Church of All Saints in Sedlec, a suburb of Kutna Hora. It contains skeletons of over 40,000 people, whose bones have been artistically rearranged to form decorations, furnishings, and even chandeliers for the chapel.

One Of The Decorative Skull Urns In A Niche
    SCHWARZENBERG COAT OF ARMS

Combine all this with independent late-night séances, visits to grave yards, on-board classic ghost & genre films, time allotted for shopping, a mad monster-mash masquerade ball/farewell party and other surprises, and travelers will enjoy one of the most memorable macabre tours in haunted history.

The Sedlec Ossuary entrance with enormous chandelier of bones, which contains at least one of every bone in the human body, hangs from the center of the nave with garlands of skulls draping the vault.

The trip is a deluxe travel packages valued at $5,999 per person for only$2,499 per person based on double occupancy including round-trip airfare to Prague, transfers, luxury coach transportation, all hotel/castle accommodations, all attractions, admissions, events, parties, special guests & entertainment. There are optional single room supplements and group rates available upon request.

Philip K. Dick (1928-1982) was one of the 20th century's most profound novelists and writers within the science fiction community. His exploration, analysis and beliefs led to the publishings of 44 novels and 121 short stories. Dick's enormous library of works led to several film developments including Blade Runner (1982), Total Recall (1990), Minority Report (2002), Paycheck (2003) A Scanner Darkly (2006), Radio Free Albemuth (2010), The Adjustment Bureau (2011) and Total Recall (2012). Dick's enormously effective views comprised of fictional universes, virtual realities and human mutation foresaw an exaggerated version of the current state of government and contemporary life. Though he is gone in the physical form his philosophies live on in the techniques applied to modern stories and films and generate large displays of appreciation and understanding.

    AVAILABLE NOW!

NEWS UPDATE!Extreme horror author David L. Tamarin is kicking off 2015 with the release of two new books: This Book Hates You, a dark short story collection, and Hurting My Toys: Spiritual Suicide, a nihilistic horror novel.

This Book Hates You is an extreme collection of brutality, violence and black humor, including a story that was originally banned by Amazon Kindle. Hurting My Toys: Spiritual Suicide follows a schizophrenic torturer who believes he will become God after he has killed enough people. Its cover is illustrated by Andrey Iskanov, director of the controversial Philosophy of a Knife.

      Quote from Mr. Tamarin...
"The stories in 'This Book Hates You' were written over a period of ten years and represent my best, most brutal writing during that time. 'Hurting My Toys' is an act of war waged by the writer against his readers. It is a traumatic, shocking festival of cruelty and tortured innocence."

Mr. Tamarin's tales of bloodshed, torture and mutilation are already making waves in the underground horror world. Fellow hardcore horror writer Randy Chandler (Bad Juju) raves...

"David L. Tamarin blurs the line between horror fiction and real-life horror. Enter his twisted world at your own risk. Once there, you may wonder if you're in the presence of a truly diabolical mind."

THIS BOOK HATES YOU is now available in paperback and e-book through Radiation Sickness Press from:

HURTING MY TOYS: SPIRITUAL SUICIDE is available as an e-book via Comet Press from:

         Diabolique News: Coming Soon MELTOWN
New Zombie Film From Director Jake Mulliken

     Director Jake Mulliken says...
"I have always loved horror, especially Zombies. No other horror genre has reached the cultural peaks of everyone's favorite, cuddly flesh eating corpses. Living in Pittsburgh these past few years has only driven that point home. However, as a filmmaker, I always had an issue. Zombie films, despite the rare few, always provide a story that lacks the human element, or never gets past the "everyone must die in less than 90 minutes" format. It is that glaring issue that inspired me to write my feature length Zombie film, Meltdown."

"I wanted something different, something in the style of classic eighties horror with a Grindhouse feel. Meltdown, can be described as Shaun of the Dead meets Mad Max. Thematically, Meltdown is a ZomCom partially set in a post apocalyptic landscape. The goal is to provide a setting in which not only the Zombies evolve into a new and dangerous threat but the main characters evolve, highlighting what they have to become to survive in a new world. The goal is to do a Meltdown trilogy combining various genres into a consistent and entertaining story line. The feature was is an extension of the Meltdown short, which we shot in 2012 here in Pittsburgh, the trailer is below and the whole short can be viewed on Youtube."

    Official MELTDOWN Trailer

MELTDOWN - A Full Length Feature Zombie Film Produced by Lucky4Productions. Directed by Jake Mulliken. Starring: Robert McMurray, Alicia Marie Marcucci, Seth Gontkovic, Jake Mulliken Dave Petti, Rebecca Gruss

       LUCKY4PRODUCTIONSand THE MELTDOWN FEATURE

My name is Jake Mulliken and I am the president of Lucky4Productions, formerly OutofPocketProductions, a Pennsylvania based production company. I am a native of Kentucky and worked in various special education environments across the nation while finishing my bachelors and masters degrees. Before moving to Pittsburgh to build my own production company, I was the head of the performing arts department at a private high school in Northern California that serviced students with language based learning differences, Autism, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, ADD, ADHD, etc. While there I developed the school's Film Deaprtment and inhereted the Performing Arts Department.

After two years at the school, my program was sadly cut due to budget cuts, and I made my way to Pittsburgh with the goal of focusing my attentions solely on the arts. My first project in Pittsburgh was my short film Meltdown. On a meager $1,200 budget my friends and I were able to pull the short together. A majority of the revenue came from our Zombie Car Wash, an event that had members of cast as well as volunteers, dress in full Zombie costumes and dump buckets of blood on willing motorists.

In less than a week we finished filming the short, and in a month post production was complete. The following year we entered the short into the independent arts group RAW Artists. The Meltdown short, coupled with our work on Ghost Hunt, a documentary about the late Dr. Hunter S. Thompson (The trailer is included in the RAW Awards video below) I was able to win Pittsburgh's RAW Artists Filmmaker of the Year for 2013.

After our success at RAW, I began the process of developing the short into the feature length film. After months of re-writes we finally adapted a script that was, not only true to the Zombie genre, but also provided a new perspective through the implementation  of integrating various genres. Specifically, the integration of Post Apocalyptic and Comedic themes. We received our investment in April and by June11th, we began filming in Somerset, PA and Venango Co., PA. In two weeks we shot 89 scenes and 1338 takes, involving travel, full lighting set ups as well as effects and set design. By August 16th, 2014 we presented our first screening at Tailgatez in Somerset, PA and  on Wednesday, September 24th we had our Pittsburgh premiere at South Side Works. We were able to shoot the entire film on a budget of $20,000.

The goal of Lucky4Productions is not only to make movies, but work in close proximity with the community we are involved with, as was the case in Somerset, PA. Not only was the majority of our Zombie and background cast pulled from the citizenry of Somerset, but we worked in close conjunction with local businesses as well as the local Chamber of Commerce and Mayor's Office. Through making the film making process inclusive, were we able to introduce film to a community that had never enjoyed the process of film making. Aside from Meltdown, we also worked with the local government to launch Somerset's first annual independent film festival, entitled The Roof Garden Independent Film Festival. Aside from the festival, we were honored by Mayor Scott Walker as well as the city council of Somerset with an official proclamation deeming August 16th as "Meltdown Day," in honor of our collective work and the world premiere of Meltdown.

The antithesis of the Dogme 95 manifesto, the directors will not be frugal with special effects, props and musical score, and have already attracted notable talent in the horror genre, such as composers Frank Ilfman (Big Bad Wolves) and Joseph Bishara (The Conjuring).

THE ART OF ROBERT ARAGON Trading Card Set Inducted into the Bridgeman Art Library

    Comic-Con Experience 2008 #4
Robert Aragon at his table in Artist's Alley

One of the many constants on the Exhibition Floor is Artists' Alley, a section dedicated to independent artists. Offerings in this section are mostly comic-book related, but can range from the beautiful to the bizarre. It is in this section of the exhibit floor where we find our Comic-Con Experience 2008 #4, artist Robert Aragon. While many artists in Artists' Alley have horror-themed offerings, Aragon's pieces are one-of-a-kind tributes to classic horror films, with a particular emphasis on Universal and Hammer. Mr. Aragon licenses the likeness of many of his subjects from the actor's estates, including those of Boris Karloff and Lon Chaney, and his art accurately and artistically captures the spirit and images of the old films. You'll find no grotesque, trendily warped images of Dracula or the Mummy here, no modern gothic influences. After all, Boris Karloff's Frankenstein's Monster needs no embellishment. About Robert Aragon
A self-taught and award winning artist, Robert Aragon is noted for bringing shadows to the forefront of his work, which adds an air of mystery to the subjects of his portraits. Mr. Aragon is one of the leading fine art portrait artists in the world. His work is exhibited internationally and is represented and protected by the very prestigious Bridgeman Art Library. Now, for the first time in history, all of Robert’s artwork is showcased in a trading card set (shown below) which involves all of Aragon’s silver screen favorites.

The kindhearted Mr. Aragon is a writer and gifted artist who showed talent from the time he could almost walk. So, this trading card set has been in the making for literally 20 years. Mr. Aragon has created works for Famous Monsters of Filmland, Karloff Enterprises, Universal Studios, Lugosi Enterprises, Ray Harryhausen, Warner Bros Studios, Diabolique Magazine, The Steve McQueen Estate, and others.

Over time, Mr. Aragon has become close to quite a few horror stars and their families. This closeness has helped him clear any licensing obstacles, which would have made the creation of the set difficult or impossible to accomplish.

MNS Cards president Mark Abent had this to say... “This set is unprecedented in the fact we were able to gather so many iconic classic names together. They love his work and the concept of the project.”

Robert Aragon became very close to one particular horror star, Vincent Price. In the early nineties, Robert and Vincent would share artwork with one another. So, it comes as no surprise that a highly limited number of cut signature cards of Vincent Price and original art created by Price will be randomly inserted into the card set by way of a redemption card. (These will have no expiration date.)

The base set of cards will be made up of 72 cards celebrating some of Robert Aragon’s established works, while many new pieces have been created specifically for the card set. Each box will yield one base set. In addition, there will be three different chase card sets. Each box will contain random cards from each of the following chase sets.
    • The Faces of Fear: A nine card foil chase set (with different backs.)
    • Vincent PriceMaster of Menace: A nine card chase set, which features puzzle backs.
    • Gothic Treasures: Six different cards make up this chase set, which is actually made out of wood, yes wood. The back of each card is a piece to a larger puzzle.

Sketch cards will be randomly seeded into boxes based on the silver screen art of Robert Aragon. Twenty-five different artists have contributed to the set. Some of the artists include: Asleigh Popplewell, Nick Neocleous, Carolyn Edwards, Rich Molinelli, Bryan Tillman, Christiaan Voldstad, Oscar De Anda and Robert Aragon just to name a few.

Inside each case one of three different Canvas Case Toppers, which will be included as an added incentive. This card is made of canvas material and is textured. Each box will include 2 to 4 random hits per box, from the following: autograph cards, sketch cards, prop cards, cut signature cards, printing plates, and redemption cards. Each box will have a base set of 72 cards with random chase cards from all three chase sets. There will be 200 cases produced with 15 boxes per case.

So, if you’re a devout horror fan, art enthusiast, or just a collector in general, this set is definitely for you! Older fans will be able to reminisce, while a younger generation can discover what they've been missing. For more information visit: www.mnscards.com

'This Is War' New Fundraiser Endorsed By Actress and Producer Dawna Lee Heising 'I Support A Living Wage For Key Makeup Artists'

                  COMING SOON
    THIS IS WAR
A new movie about Lovers, Sinners & Dreamers

"I Support A Living Wage For Key Makeup Artists"- Dawna Lee Heising

      MAKEUP
    THE OBJECTIVE: FIND THE BUDGET!

This $600 fundraiser (click here) is to make sure we have at least one makeup artist for a week of principal photography to ensure the audience for our premiere video "This Is War." It's about lovers, sinners & dreamers and will suspend disbelief to feel the intense power of the dynamic story.

IMDb lists 10 job categories (shown below) for the makeup department. That would mean we'd need to raise $6,000 to have a complete makeup team on set for a week.
    • Makeup Artist
    • Hair Stylist
    • Key Makeup Artist
    • Makeup Department Head
    • Key Hair Stylist
    • Assistant Makeup Artist
    • Special Makeup Effects Artist
    • Makeup Designer
    • Makeup Supervisor
    • Assistant Hairstylist

    DID YOU KNOW THAT...
According to Chris Jones, the design departments are the unsung heroes of a film. His advice to low-budget filmmakers is to find the budget for the makeup, costume, and production design departments and "…give them the time and resources they need to do world class work for you."

    WORDS OF WISDOM
Mr. Jones goes on to say..."If they fail to create a vibrant and authentic universe in front of the camera, you will be surfing VERY close to losing that all important ‘suspense of disbelief’ that you need from your audience. One bad prop, one unbelievable costume, one poor background can bring the illusion crashing down and at that moment, your viewer will be popped out of the story. And it’s a fight to re-engage them once you have lost them that first time. Ironically, these departments are also the first to be pressed hard when budgets get cut. And yet (along with bad sound) there is nothing that will give your budget away faster than ill thought out locations, bad production design, poor costume and dodgy make-up."

    LIVING WAGE PROMISE
"WE SUPPORT A LIVING WAGE FOR HAIR STYLISTS"
We are committed to paying our makeup team a living wage of $15 per hour and in order to accomplish that we need your support. Donatehere

    Message From James Patrick Brown:
"I've set up a fundraising platform for creative director budgets.  The first campaign is for living wage jobs for makeup artists, with the money to be awarded to makeup department budgets including my project Koch Daddy and other films with Dawna Lee Heising in the cast, such as The Unhandyman by Steve Oakley (I'm the creative director)." https://thisiswar.nationbuilder.com/makeup

    The Tom Steyer Challenge

     1 -Funding Climate Change Impact

La Casa del Pecado's climate-change telenovela web-show "This is War"is designed to appeal to Latino voters with melodrama, music, and humor. The producer's objective is to introduce the impact of climate change into the daily lives with plot twists and turns in the lives of characters like Baby Girl who have a vested interest in climate change policy.

"Climate change impacts us all, and we must each make personal decisions about how we live, spend and work to preserve our planet. But beyond these private decisions, one thing has become abundantly clear: the time to act politically to avert climate disaster has arrived. As a nation, we must chart a different course, one that preserves our prosperity and empowers American businesses to create jobs while building the clean energy future our kids deserve." - Tom Steyer, Forbes Magazine, 12/3/2104

Tom Steyer spent $74 million trying to influence the2014 mid-term elections. As he considers a run for U.S. Senate in California and gears up to spend millions to make climate change a major issue in the 2016 presidential race, he may want to consider that the return on investment in the Koch Daddy video premiere of This is War may be exponentially higher than the money he wasted on attacking the Koch Brothers with negative television advertising.

Our first fundraiser to cover production costs of producing Koch Daddy episodes for Season 1 of This is War is for $31,200. We chose this number because it is the annual living wage for someone earning $15 an hour.  If billionaire Tom Steyer had spent his $74 million on living wages for people making the changes he wants make, he would have created 2,371 living wage jobs. We're asking that he fund just one job. How about it, Tom? will you toss us a $31,200 bone just to see where we run with it?

        - James Patrick Brown and Emilio Trelles Aramburo, creators of the premiere episode of the 2015 hip hop telenovela, Koch Daddy. IMDb Profile Link

    BUDGET ARCHITECT

James Patrick Brown - Budget Architect & Co-Creator of "This is War"
This is War producers are raising $74 million to fund 1,474 living-wage jobs in the entertainment industry. Tom Steyer spent $74 million to achieve clearly defined objectives.  He fell short.  Our premise is that with 1,474 entertainment-industry professionals we can do what Tom's super PAC's failed to do:  Make the the candidate's position on climate change policy a deciding factor when voters go to the polls on November 8, 2016. Tom's strategy didn't work. His intentions are good, but he's a billionaire with a legacy to build. While he's busy spending his millions on building his legacy; let's make some movies, have some fun and create change along the way.
Co-creator and budget architect of This is War& associated productions was a senior consultant for an Oracle-Hyperion Public Sector budget management and planning system for the $9.5 billion budget spent by the city of Washington DC each year. He has worked in the project management office with teams of professionals executing IT, telecom, and construction projects costing between $5 million and $2.7 billion. This is War was designed according industry-standard project management practices and strategic-budgeting principles. If you are considering jointing us as a Major Donor ($50,224 or more) please contact James to schedule a high-level strategy meeting and review of our business plan and project-execution documentation.

How are we going to do it?
We're not going to do it by slamming the Koch Brothers with negative ads or by flooding voters with junk they don't want. We're going to put on a show. A series of shows. $74 million worth of entertainment if you make it so. Our strategy is to entertain the people with stories that reach them where they live; in their hearts, minds, and pocketbook. And serving politics as a side dish, plot twists with a twist. Something to taste, savor, and enjoy.

    Do the Math
    • 40 hours x $15 = $600
    • 1.5 X $15 = $22.5 (overtime)
    • 10 hours x $22.5 = $225 (typical overtime per week during production)
    • $600 + $225 = $825.50 (SAG-AFTRA Interactive Media Scale is $825.50)
    • 17% x $825.50 = $140.34 (Producer contribution to SAG-AFTRA pension and benefits)
    • $825.50 + $140.34 = $965.84

    COMING JULY 17-19, 2015

    CHARRED REMAINS
    FILM FESTIVAL

NEW ONLINE FILM FESTIVAL TO SHOWCASE
    TODAY'S BEST INDIE HORROR FILMS!

NEWS UPDATE! Independent horror reviewer & podcaster Char Hardin has created a new online film festival. It's purpose is to showcase today’s best indie horror films for a loyal viewing audience who do not attend film festivals and horror conventions where indie & mainstream horror films are shown. The online format gives a platform for horror fans that often read about the different films that reviewers such as Ms. Hardin among others get to view but they themselves are unable to watch or find.

With the Charred Remains Film Festival being strictly onlinethe dedicated horror fans will not have to take off from work, reserve hotels, pay for gas and other expenses. They will be able to enjoy the entire festival from the comfort of their own homes by clicking on Char’s official website here

The CHARRED REMAINS FILM FESTIVAL takes place July 17-19 2015. A program will be made and films and times will be posted the week of the festival to alert horror viewers to the schedule of events.

After the horror viewers have seen what the festival has to offer, Char will open a poll to the audience on what and who were the best of the festival. An award ceremony will be scheduled via Google Hangouts & Youtube and nominees will be invited to join the ceremony and to "virtually accept their awards."

As for the filmmaker, why should they submit to a virgin festival? To further gain exposure for their work and to introduce their brand of horror to horror fans hungering for something different than what mainstream filmmakers are currently producing.

Char Hardin is a dedicated horror fan who has a special love for low budget independent horror films. For the last four years she has reviewed countless feature movies and thousands of short horror films. She is currently a judge for the Fantastic Horror Film Festival that will be take place in San Diego the end of every October. It is her second year as a judge for this festival. She feels very confident it has prepared her for what she is taking on by hosting her own Horror film festival. Char loves promoting the films, the directors, actors and all involved in the making of a horror movie. She sees her festival as another platform to promote independent horror filmmakers and their work.

Cash Prizes have been donated for “Best Feature Film” ($500), “Best Short Film” ($250), and “Best Actor/Actress” ($250 each).

Char is actively seeking sponsors for the remaining categories: Best Director, Best Kill/Death Scene, Goriest Film, Best Scream, Creepiest Sound Effects, Best Musical Score/Soundtrack, Best FX, and Best SFX Make-Up.  Anyone seriously interested in sponsoring a category may contact Char via email: thecharhardin@gmail.com or through the Charred Remains Film Festival Facebook page here

Char has special award called the “Goosebumps Award” she will award the filmmaker whose film gives her “Goosebumps” and frightens her.

Interest in becoming a judge of the festival has been shown and currently Char’s gathering information and pending responses to a few invitations an announcement could be made soon. For up-to-date information on the festival check back often here.  To help spread the news, “Like” and “Share” her fan page here with horror loving friends.

The guidelines for submissions can be found here.

Char is available for interviews to discuss further her film festival. All inquiries can reach her via email or the festival’s Facebook page

Guess what? You write a script. You gather a few actors and a crew. You shoot, edit, add music and sound design and... BAM! You're done! Finished film. Now you can rest. Right? WRONG!
